ULI Foundation officers and staff combine years of management, membership and development experience in the private sector, trade and professional organizations.
James D. Klingbeil, Chairman
Mr. Klingbeil currently serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Klingbeil Capital Management. Mr. Klingbeil also serves as Chairman of AACIII and The Klingbeil Company, which he founded in 1961 and as Chairman of Khempco Building Supply Group. The Klingbeil Company has engaged in nearly every aspect of real estate investment, development, construction and management since its formation.

While continuing his apartment investment and management activities, Mr. Klingbeil has also participated in the development of sales housing, including as a co-founder and Chairman of the Anden Group in 1975, which built approximately $1 billion of sales housing not only in the United States, but also in Paris and London.

Mr. Klingbeil has been active throughout his career in real estate and business organizations, as well as national and community activities. The bulk of his industry involvement has revolved around the Urban Land Institute (ULI), for which he has served on various committees and as a Trustee for over 30 years. He served as President of the ULI from 1991 to 1993 and currently serves as the Chairman of the ULI Foundation.

Mr. Klingbeil currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors and Vice Chairman of United Dominion Realty Trust, a publicly traded real estate development trust.

Richard M. Rosan, President
Richard M. Rosan is the President of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Foundation, which is the philanthropic arm of the Urban Land Institute. ULI is a global nonprofit education and research institute supported by nearly 35,000 members representing all aspects of land use and development disciplines. Its mission is to provide leadership in the responsible use of land and in sustaining and creating thriving communities worldwide.

The ULI Foundation, which has a corpus of more than $40 million, supports many of the Institute’s general research and education activities, as well as local programs offered through ULI’s District Council network. In addition, the Foundation provides endowments for specific activities, including those related to workforce housing, infrastructure, sustainability, and public leadership in land use.

Mr. Rosan recently transitioned full-time into the role of ULI Foundation President after stepping aside as Chief Executive Officer of ULI Worldwide. For more than 17 years, he served simultaneously as ULI’s top executive and as the ULI Foundation President. Under Rosan’s leadership, ULI experienced a fourfold increase in membership, expanded its global outreach into Europe and Asia, and secured many new funding sources. Rosan broadened ULI’s intellectual content through the creation of the ULI Senior Resident Fellows program and the funded Centers, which are supported through endowments from the ULI Foundation.

Rosan is an architect and a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. Prior to his service at ULI, he spent 22 years in New York City in several capacities, including 12 years with the City of New York, concluding with his service as the city’s Economic Development Director. Rosan also served for six years as President of the Real Estate Board of New York, and he spent five years in the private development business as a project director for several large New York City development projects.

STAFF

David Howard, Executive Vice President
David Howard currently serves as executive vice president of development for the Urban Land Institute and executive vice president of the Urban Land Institute Foundation. In this capacity, he is responsible for overseeing all of the Institute’s fundraising activities and administering the annual program of work of the ULI Foundation. ULI’s fundraising program generates financial support for general corporate needs, providing necessary resources for priority areas such as Urban Land magazine, conferences and meetings, and specialized research activities. In addition, the ULI Foundation provides funding for critical programs that support the Institute’s mission of creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide, to include advisory services engagements, community action grants, education fellowships, and content initiatives that advance ULI’s work in the areas of sustainability, infrastructure, and workforce housing.
 
Prior to his appointment as executive vice president of the ULI Foundation, Howard served as executive vice president of ULI’s development and membership group. In this position, Howard managed all corporate fundraising as well as membership recruitment and retention activities for ULI, overseeing the expansion of the organization’s membership to more than 40,000 members in 90+ countries around the world.
 
Howard has over 15 years of experience in the fundraising, corporate outreach, membership development, and not-for-profit environment. He has served in leadership and management positions for a number of trade and professional associations representing a variety of industry interests. Prior to joining ULI in 2005, he served as head of the membership and development program for the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT) in Washington, DC.

Andrea Holthouser, Vice President, Individual Giving
Andrea Holthouser leads the ULI Foundation’s Individual Giving Program, currently overseeing fundraising and stewardship activities for the Annual Fund and Governors’ Campaign. Prior to joining the ULI Foundation staff, Andrea was responsible for the development and implementation of fundraising campaigns for Duke University’s Law School, the Fuqua School of Business, the University of California at Santa Barbara, and Georgetown University. In addition to her experience in university development, she has worked with the Winston-Salem Community Foundation, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, and St. Margaret’s School.

Most recently at Georgetown University, Andrea served as a member of the leadership gift team where she implemented fundraising strategies that led to a record breaking 28% increase in parent contributions over a two-year period. In addition to increasing support, Andrea worked with university leadership to develop and implement a new board structure for leadership donors in order to significantly enhance donor cultivation and stewardship efforts. Janet Fernandez, Executive Assistant
As Executive Assistant, Janet Fernandez supports the ULIF Executive staff, including providing liaison with the ULIF Board of Directors, Foundation Governors and Overseers. She also provides administrative and program support for Development activities and is responsible for external relations for the Foundation’s office, including communications, member relations, as well as interactions with partner agencies and organizations.

Janet most recently served as the Executive Assistant to the President and CEO at the American Society of Clinical Oncology.  She also served as an Executive Assistant to the Chief Development Officer and VP of Major Gifts for Special Olympics World Headquarters, DC, and as Program Specialist for the Chair of the Pharmacology and Physiology Department at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She is an active member of the International Association of Administrative Professionals, having just finished two-terms as President of the ASCO Alexandria Chapter.

Jessica Waymouth, Development Team
Jessica has been with ULI since early 2006 as part of the Development team, fundraising for ULI through sponsorship and advertising.  In her current role, as the Director of Development, she oversees the general management of the department, including advertising revenue for Urban Land magazine, sponsorships of events and reports, and exhibit booths at the ULI Fall Meeting and Urban Land Expo.  In addition, she manages ULI’s Corporate Partner accounts and the ULI Foundation Graduate Student Fellows program, funded by Stephen Chamberlin, Bruce Etkin, and Debra Stein.  As part of her role, she maintains relationships with ULI members and professional services firms working with them to partner on ULI initiatives and increase member involvement.
 
Prior to joining ULI, Jessica worked at ICF International on community development and government contracting projects, working directly with cities on their affordable housing programs.
