ULIF at Work
The ULI Foundation supports the mission of the Urban Land Institute by providing an assured source of funding for ULI’s core research, education and community outreach activities. Some recent programs are profiled here.

Infrastructure 2010: Investment Imperative
Launched in 2005 in response to a shared belief that public decision making for infrastructure was flawed. Through the generous support of James Curtis, Ernst & Young, and the Rockefeller Foundation, ULI engages members and others in discussion and a range of activities to promote a more sustainable balance between land use and infrastructure investments. IMPACT: ULI leaders are at the forefront of developing new models for urban infrastructure and new products to finance them.

LessEn: An Energy Efficiency Exchange
Endowed by Sir Stuart Lipton, this open forum creates a one-stop objective, transparent and interactive web exchange where building developers, owners and investors, government officials and the general public can come to learn and share information on commercial building energy retrofitting. IMPACT: The potential to promote best practice ideas and wider adoption of energy-efficient urban development by providing: easily accessed solutions, tangible examples and case studies; practical, comprehensive and clear information; advice on how to facilitate energy efficiency for both new and existing developments; and access to necessary information, tools and experts required to reduce the carbon footprint of real estate professionals and their activities.

ULI Robert C. Larson Leadership Initiative
Created to honor the memory of one of the real estate industry’s leading lights, the ULI Robert C. Larson Leadership Initiative puts into action Bob’s vision to enhance the leadership capabilities of ULI members, staff, and others to better fulfill the Institute’s mission. IMPACT: By building the leadership skills of its members, ULI will strengthen the real estate industry and enable ULI members to be leaders for change in order to bring about more sustainable and equitable land- use policies and practices in their communities.

ULI Daniel Rose Fellowship
The flagship program of the ULI Daniel Rose Center for Public Leadership in Land Use established in 2008 through an endowment by Daniel Rose, the fellowship provides a core team of city leaders from four cities with leadership development and technical assistance on land-use challenges facing their cities. IMPACT: Phoenix gained new insights on how to attract green development to the city. The Minneapolis team received practical ideas on transit-oriented development along their new light rail line. Nashville crafted an approach to redeveloping two declining commercial corridors, and Philadelphia gleaned valuable advice on revitalizing the corridor between City Hall and Temple University.
